BANGALORE: Vehicular movement came to a near halt in the central parts of the city for two hours on Wednesday when about 4,000 employees of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) took out a procession from Ulsoor to the BSNL head office at CTO Circle. Traffic was affected on Mahatma Gandhi Road, Brigade Road, St. Marks Road, Cubbon Road, Kamaraj Road, Infantry Road, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Veedhi. According to the police, after the procession reached the BRV junction on Cubbon Road, confusion prevailed among the employees whether they should march towards the BSNL head office or hold a protest meeting at BRV Parade grounds. While a section of the protesters proceeded towards the Parade grounds, the others insisted that they should stage a demonstration in front of the head office. As the procession did not move ahead for a few minutes till the confusion was sorted out, vehicular movement came to a halt at the busy junction. This resulted in traffic snarls on adjoining roads. After the procession reached the CTO Circle, the police made the protesters to gather inside the Cubbon Park to prevent traffic jams. “Traffic was affected for some time as 4,000 people had to cross the road and enter Cubbon Road. Necessary traffic diversions were made in the area,” Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic-East) K. Eshwar Prasad told The Hindu.
