HYDERABAD: More than 3,500 candidates turned up for the job mela organised by the Employment Information and Guidance Bureau (EIGB), Osmania University, and they were tested for their communication skills more than their academic excellence.

Chief of EIGB D. Balaramulu said large number of post graduates turned up for the interviews conducted by the eight-member team of Max New York Life for the 200 posts of financial consultants. However, many candidates were asked to come at a later date as the organisers were unable to cope up with the huge response.

He said it is a good sign that top companies like Max New York Life are conducting interviews on the university campus and wanted students to benefit from such programmes.

He said such melas are generally organised in professional colleges and the EIGB is making efforts to get more such companies to the campus. Selected candidates would be informed after a few days.

Earlier, a few students angered by the poor arrangements questioned the authorities on “misleading” them. A few others also questioned as to why a multinational company was asked to come to the campus for interviews.

However, officials convinced them that poor arrangements were due to lack of space but needs of every candidate would be addressed to. Dr. Balaramulu said that in the absence of Government jobs, candidates should make use of such melas and gain work experience.
