THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Government would soon come up with a new legislation on water usage, Water Resources Minister N.K. Premachandran told the Assembly on Wednesday. Responding to a calling attention motion moved by M. Prakasan Master (CPI-M), the Minister said the law would seek to give effect to the proposals to be included in the State Water Policy to be announced later this year. The draft of the Water Policy has been published and is now being scrutinised and discussed at different levels. The State Water Resources Council and the Government have received several suggestions for improving the Water Policy. All the suggestions would be taken into account before a comprehensive Water Policy is announced, Mr. Premachandran said. Replying to a question, he said the State Water Policy was modelled after the National Water Policy and some parts of it relating to priority of water usage had come in for criticism from different quarters. The Government would take all such suggestions into consideration before making the final policy statement, he added. UAE amnesty
Responding to another calling attention motion moved by C.P. Muhammed (Congress), Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said the State Government would send two officers to the United Arab Emirates to assist Non-Resident Malayalis who wish to avail of the UAE Government’s amnesty proposal and leave the country. The officers would assist the NRIs to prepare their travel documents and give them whatever other help they needed, the Chief Minister said.
