TIRUPUR: Much to the relief of commuters, works for passenger amenities are progressing at Tirupur railway station at an estimated cost of around Rs. 1 crore.
Facilities
Both platforms will get a smooth surface with Kota slabs. The platform number 1 and 2 will be raised by a foot to the length of 590 meters each. R. Ramakrishnan, senior divisional engineer, Palakkad Division of Southern Railway, says that the platform will be elevated at a cost of Rs.70 lakh.
In order to accommodate more number of bogies, the platform number 2 will be widened by eight metres. Additional chairs will be provided at both the platforms.
Estimates
The platforms will be covered at 50 metres each on both sides at a cost of Rs. 23 lakh. Passengers are now suffering during rains as there is no roof on the entire platform.
Development
Some parts of platforms on either side have been covered now. Mr. Ramakrishnan hopes that these development works will be completed by the end of October. “We have been preparing estimates to improve concourse and circulating areas of the railway station,” he said.
