KANCHEEPURAM: Information about employment of children in domestic work in Kancheepuram district can be passed on to the Labour Department through toll-free phone No: 1098 or through phone numbers 27238050 / 27221090.
Engaging children for domestic work or as servers or assistants in hotels, ‘dhabas’, fast food centres or in any other eateries, has been declared as a hazardous occupation under the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 with effect from October 10, 2006 by the Union Government.
Hence, the owners of, or those running, institutions were advised to refrain from employing children.

Billboards containing the phone numbers, through which complaints relating to child labour problem could be aired, have been displayed for the benefit of general public / non-governmental organisations in taluk and regional transport offices in the district as per instructions from Collector Pradeep Yadav, said the Labour Inspector, Kancheepuram, G. Mahalingam, in a release.
