TNSP prevails

Tirunelveli: Tamil Nadu State Police, Chennai edged past Rajiv Gandhi Hockey Club, Kovilpatti 2-1 in the inaugural match of the seventh annual Kandasamy Memorial Trophy State-level hockey tournament at Palayamkottai on Wednesday.

It was Rajiv Gandhi Club, which went into the lead in the 35th minute with Ilavarasan scoring off a rebound from Police goalkeeper Saravanan’s pads. Palanivelnathan found the equaliser for Police, converting a penalty stroke in the 38th minute. Pradeep Kumar scored the winner deflecting one in, following a melee in the 49th minute.

In another match, SSOS Sankakari prevailed over Income Tax Recreation Club, Chennai 5-4 via tie-breaker, after the teams were locked 2-2 at the end of regulation time.

Prem (12th minute) and Julie (40th) scored for SSOS. Ramadoss (39th) and Kaushik (51st) scored for the Chennai team. In the tie-breaker Babu, Dhanapal and Prem scored for SSOS. Ilango and Dinesh scored for Income Tax Club.

Badminton meet

The Virudhunagar District badminton will be held on July 15 and July 29 at the A.J. Indoor Stadium, Sivakasi.

The events will be for men, women, boys and girls in age categories.
