Several awards in Sardesai’s memory

Special Correspondent

Mumbai: The Cricket Club of India has decided to name its prawn curry after Dilip Sardesai.

The CCI President Raj Singh Dungarpur said it was a dish Sardesai loved.

Several awards in memory of Sardesai were also announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Mumbai Cricket Association, Goa Cricket Association and the CCI at a gathering.

Former cricketers recalled the contribution made by Dilip Sardesai, who died last week.

BCCI’s CAO Prof. Ratnakar Shetty announced that the best Indian player of an India-West Indies series henceforth will be awarded the Sardesai Trophy.

Prof. Shetty also announced that from the forthcoming season the MCA would encourage a promising under-19 player from the city.

“We will send him for four to six weeks to the Australian Cricket Academy. We will institute a scholarship in memory of Saedesai,” he said.

The Chief Minister of Goa, Digambar Kamat announced that the officials of the Goa Cricket Association had informed him that a stand at the new cricket ground to be developed would be named after Sardesai.

Nari Contractor said Sardesai batted straight in the ‘V’, was courageous and did not like to throw his wicket once he was set.
