PALAKKAD: Five activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) were taken into custody by the police on Thursday on the charge of tying to force their entry into the office of the District Bus Operators Organisation here. The students took out a march from Victoria College to G.B. Road in protest against the decision of bus operators to not give students travel concessions from next week. They were stopped at the main gate of the office. When the students tried to break the police cordon, they were caned and chased away. The police identified the five person who were taken into custody as Hariprasad, Nithis, Baiju, Naveen and Aneesh. They were later released by the police. ABVP activists later hurled stones at two private buses near the Town bus stand. District president of ABVP Rajeev and State Committee member Baiju said they had called for an ‘education bandh’ in the district on Friday in protest against the police action on them and to press for student travel concessions in private buses.
