Inaugurating the Southern Zonal Council in Madras on July 11, Pandit G.B. Pant, Union Home Minister, urged the different States in the South to make united efforts for the solution of the common problems confronting the region as a whole. Referring to the proposal for the utilisation of the waters of the Godavari and the Krishna for the benefit of some parts of Madras State, he said: “With some luck and skill on our part this need not remain a dream.” The Council decided that its headquartes be located in Madras. Draft rules of procedure were adopted. The venue of the second meeting is to be Hyderabad and of the third, Trivandrum. The second meeting will be held on September 28.
