dated July 13, 1957: The Aga Khan dead

The Aga Khan, Sultan Sir Mahomed Shah, the 79-year-old spiritual head of the Ismaili Muslim sect, died at his lakeside villa near Geneva on July 11 after a long illness. The Aga Khan had arrived at his villa three weeks ago to recuperate from a setback in health during a stay in Paris. He had been ill on and off for more than 10 years. He was confined to his villa at Cannes for two months earlier this year with broncho-pulmonary trouble. Born in Karachi, the Aga Khan had Persian royal blood in his veins. His ancestors fled to India early last century after a revolution in Persia.
