8 die in landslips, cloudbursts

DEHRA DUN: Eight persons, including four children, were killed and three others injured in landslips and cloudbursts following heavy overnight rain on Wednesday at Devpuri village in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district.

Six bodies have been retrieved, an official statement said here.

The dead included a couple and two elderly persons. The injured have been taken to hospital, where the condition of one of them is stated to be serious. The rain also washed away a big chunk of land in the village.

Telecommunication and road links in several areas of the State were disrupted. Traffic on the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway and other roads leading to the Kedarnath and Badrinath shrines continued to be affected. — PTI
