Thaksin summoned

BANGKOK: A court subpoena for Thailand’s former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his wife Pojaman to stand trial on corruption charges next month has been pasted on Thursday by public prosecutors on the gates of their homes in the capital. Seksan Bangsomboon, chief prosecutor in charge of special lawsuits, ordered the court subpoena to be pasted at Mr. Thaksin’s residence when no one appeared from inside to receive it. The couple was subpoenaed to appear in court in order to defend themselves over the controversial land deal, the official Thai News Agency reported. During Mr. Thaksin’s administration, Ms. Pojaman had allegedly bought the tract of land at an unusually low price from the Bank of Thailand’s Financial Institutions Development Fund several years ago. The deposed Prime Minister, who has taken self-exile in England, commented earlier that he would not come back home until democratic rule returns to Thailand. — Xinhua
