Free amusement for the people

People of the twin cities would certainly have been awe struck by the most happening event since Sunday – street fight between Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s brother and his son on one side and redoubtable rebel Congress leader P. Janardhan Reddy and his son on the other side.

All other issues of public importance fell on the wayside as the parties slugged out literally and figuratively giving all the necessary sound bytes and visuals to the ever hungry media especially telly ones looking precisely for such ‘stories’. First we had the spectacle of both accusing of beating or abusing depending on whose side you want to hear first. Then, the police in a rare show of alacrity booked cases on very serious charges and put the accused young Congress leader in the jailhouse even as he shouted for “justice”. Of course, he came out later on bail as if he won an election! Law will take its course, for sure, but did it follow the usual course when an international volleyball player was allegedly thrashed by a senior Congress leader’s son when a land deal went sour?

Or, the case of a Minister’s son bashed up by a young Congress leader but hushed up not to “spoil” the party’s name?
