TAMBARAM: In a daring crime committed in broad daylight, two knife-wielding youths attacked a woman while she was alone at home in Peerkankaranai near Tambaram on Thursday and robbed her of gold jewellery.
Amudha (37), wife of Sammandhan, an employee attached to the Vadapalani depot of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation, is a resident of Avvai Street, Srinivasan Nagar, Peerkankaranai. Her husband had left for work and their two children for school, leaving Amudha alone. Around 3 p.m., two men are reported to have barged into the house as the doors were not latched properly, police said. Once inside, they pulled out knives and one of them threatened to injure her if she raised an alarm. The two men then snatched her ‘thaali’ chain and a ring, together weighing around 7 sovereigns. They pushed her into a room, before fleeing.
The woman was in a state of shock for some time, and after she regained her composure, rang up the police control room. After preliminary investigations, the police said the assailants were moving around the area since morning and that they had some clues about their identities.
She tried to prevent the assailants from attacking her and her attempt resulted in bleeding injuries to the two men, the police added.
