Our stand on Cauvery vindicated, says Jayalalithaa

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: General secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) Jayalalithaa on Thursday said the refusal of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal to hear applications filed by Tamil Nadu and other States concerned only vindicated her party’s stand on the issue.

“150 days wasted”

In a statement here, she said the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Government and the parties supporting it had rejected the AIADMK’s view that Tamil Nadu should not have filed an application before the Tribunal, particularly after Karnataka had moved the Supreme Court on the issue. The AIADMK had also urged the State Government to go to the apex court much ahead of Karnataka, she added.

Now the State Government was “back to square one after wasting 150 days,” Ms. Jayalalithaa said.

Centre flayed

She also flayed the Central Government for allegedly filing an application before the Tribunal seeking explanations on the Cauvery Management Board and Cauvery Water Regulation Committee.

She described the move as a “delaying tactic.”
