KADAPA: A Dalit of Chitvel Arundhatiwada, Manda Penchalaiah (50), attempted suicide by slitting his neck with a bladein Chitvel police station in Railway Kodur constituency on Thursday, during interrogation on charges of committing theft in a vegetable shop where he worked. A profusely bleeding Penchalaiah was rushed to Rajampet Government hospital and then to RIMS hospital in Kadapa, where doctors operated upon him. His condition was said to be stable. Kadapa Superintendent of Police Y. Nagi Reddy ordered placement of Chitvel sub-inspector T. Ghouse Mohiuddin Khan in the Vacancy Reserve (VR) following the incident. Mahankali vegetable shop owner Prasad lodged a complaint with Chitvel police that Penchalaiah stole Rs. 30,000 from shop, Railway Kodur circle inspector Nagaraju said. While the sub-inspector was interrogating him, Penchalaiah wanted to answer the nature’s call but did not come out for some time. Constables found him lying unconscious with blood oozing from his neck and he was immediately rushed to hospital, the inspector said. District Collector M.T. Krishna Babu, SP Y. Nagi Reddy, Kadapa RDO P.V. Subrahmanyeswara Reddy and MRO Nagaraja visited RIMS hospital and enquired about the condition of Penchalaiah. SP ordered an inquiry into the incident and warned of action against those guilty.
