TIRUCHI: It is a rare opportunity for a Christian, a right chance for a theologist and an apt choice for a linguist. The four-day exhibition on the Bible sponsored by the Goodnews Home’s Ministries, Chennai, at St. John’s Vestry Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School , has a collection of 400 editions of the holy text and 300 editions on different topics in theology.
The entire Schwartz Hall, the venue of the exhibition, has well been compartmentalised.
About a dozen units forming the first rows relate to the latest publications, and as one proceeds farther, fairly big-sized collections of the old publications, including foreign editions, beckon the visitors.
The exhibit of the Bible in Telugu, Punjabi, Gujarathi, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Oriya and English is bound to attract people with different mother-tongues.
“We have displayed different versions of the Bible -- King James version, Catholic Bible, New Revised Standard Version, Family Study Bible, so on and so forth,” says the Co-ordinator, A. Robinson.
“The red letter edition has the words of Jesus Christ printed in red,” he explains.
An exclusive collection of books on hymns containing musical notes for the popular verses are on the display.
A few firms have brought out compact discs on the Bible.
The CD released by Mibiz Group, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, comprises 19 versions of the Bible including Apocrypha; famous stories; Prophecies of Messiah and the Miracles of Jesus Christ. The editions are low-priced and special rebates are given for bulk purchases.
