Naxals go on the rampage

G. Narasimha Rao

VISAKHAPATNAM: About 50 armed naxalites of the Communist Party of India (Maoist), along with an equal number of unarmed militia members, destroyed several government establishments in the Chintapalli agency area late on Wednesday night.

This was in retaliation to the killing of two of the outfit’s top leaders Sande Rajamouli and Somanna in police encounters recently and to protest against the Government’s proposal to take up bauxite mining in the agency area.

The Maoists blasted the transmission room of Doordarshan’s very-low power transmitter, a VIP suite of the R & B guest house and the control room of the 33 kv sub-station, besides burning the household belongings of former MLA P. Balaraju.

Superintendent of Police Akun Sabharwal said the naxalites used locally manufactured explosive devices.
