Eight die in continuing violence in Pakistan

Nirupama Subramanian

ISLAMABAD: A suicide bomber blew himself up in the office of the political administrator of the North Waziristan tribal agency, killing one employee and himself, while six persons, including three policemen, were killed in an explosion in Swat in the North West Frontier Province. These follow several attacks in the north-west since the siege of the Lal Masjid began. A police station was attacked in Swat, a suicide attack on an army convoy killed six soldiers, and three Chinese engineers were killed in Peshawar. Although security forces are not linking the attacks to the masjid operation, many in affiliated seminaries, the Jamia Hafsa and the Jamia Fareedia were from these areas.
