ERODE: First Additional District Judge John Peter Sugumar awarded life sentence to four persons on Thursday evening in a murder case. The prosecution case was that Gurusamy (40) and Chidambaram were neighbouring landowners in Elavanatham village, Erode taluk. There was a long-standing enmity between the two regarding their lands. On March 26, 2004 a goat belonging to Chidambaram strayed onto Gurusamy’s land and started grazing. Following this, Gurusamy had a quarrel with Chidambaram. Sometime later the same evening, Gurusamy along with his friends and relatives Subramani (33), Subban (28), Dhanasekaran (26) and some others entered the house of Chidambaram with deadly weapons like aruval and crowbar and attacked Chidambaram, his wife Pappathy, son Sundaramurthy, his friend Duraisamy, Chidambaram’s elder brother Natraja (47) and his relative Yuvaraj. They sustained bleeding injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment. Natraj, brother of Chidambaram, died and the remaining five recovered. Following this, the Arachalure police arrested Gurusamy and 13 others. The police laid a charge of murder against them. After hearing the case, the First Additional District Judge John Peter Sugumar awarded life sentence to Gurusamy, Subramani, Subban and Dhanasekaran. The judge acquitted ten others, of whom Ayyavoo died of natural causes.
