KOZHIKODE: The building that houses the West Hill post office here is in a dangerous condition with parts of the ceiling falling apart and leaks in many places, sources alleged. Besides the post office, the office of the Postal Rural Life Insurance and a sub-divisional inspector’s office also function from the building which belongs to the Postal Department. All together 35 employees work inside the building. Reportedly, the present condition of the post office building is due to faulty construction. The building is only 25 years old and the fault in construction was noticed soon after. Though repairs were carried out to rectify the defects, these have not been effective, it is pointed out. The front portion of the post office compound gets waterlogged during rains and cause inconvenience to the people who come here. Sources said that the matter was brought to the notice of authorities concerned on several occasions but no steps have been taken to rectify problem.
