Fake currency racket suspected

Staff Reporter

KASARAGOD: The seizure of counterfeit currency notes from Kanhangad three times this week has given rise to apprehensions that a large number of fake notes are in circulation in Kasaragod district.

The police suspect the hawala lobby to be involved in the circulation of the fake notes.

The first seizure of the fake currency was made on Tuesday when Aboobacker, 39, a madrasa teacher, was arrested by the Hosdurg police for trying to deposit fake currency notes at the Hosdurg Service Cooperative Bank.
