NAGAPATTINAM: The vacancies of doctors at Government Hospitals and Primary Health Centres in Nagapattinam district will be filled soon, the Collector, Tenkasi S. Jawahar, has said. He was inaugurating the 76th free medical camp under ‘Varumun Kappom’ scheme at Government Higher Secondary School, Thalainayar, on Friday. As regards vacancies, Mr. Jawahar said that he had taken it up with the State Government and orders were recently issued appointing 61 new doctors, 26 nurses, 12 compounders and 37 health workers in the district. He pointed out that the free medical camps held under the scheme evoked good response in the district. About 91,000 people benefited from the scheme in the last 75 camps. Nearly 6,000 people underwent free scanning and electro cardiogram check was conducted on another 3,500. A team of specialist doctors were attending to the patients at each camp, he added. Health cards were issued to all those who attended the camps. Continuous treatment would be provided at the Government Hospitals free of cost. Mr. Jawahar disbursed financial assistance to 20 pregnant women.
