Widen barrage across Cauvery: ryots

Staff Reporter

KULITHALAI: The State Government and elected representatives should take steps to widen the scope of the proposed barrage across the Cauvery at Mayanur. It should help movement of heavy vehicles connecting the two banks of the river, according to working president of the Cauvery Delta Farmers’ Welfare Association, Mahadanapuram V. Rajaram.

Through a petition, Mr. Rajaram has said that if provision was made for plying heavy vehicles on the barrage, a good road link could be established between Mayanur on the right bank and Kattuputhur on the left. It would facilitate easy movement of people and agricultural produce. At present, people have to go to Musiri and Kulithalai between which the Periyar Bridge existed. It is a circuitous route, he added.
