Puducherry: Volunteers of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam will stage road rokos at eight places in Puducherry and Karaikal on Saturday, according to secretary of the party A. Anbalagan. He told newsmen here on Thursday that the agitations would focus on the “failure” of the Congress Government in fulfilling poll promises. The scheme to make available free of cost 10 kg rice was now restricted to benefit only families holding red colour ration cards, although all sections of cardholders were promised free rice. Families of fishermen, who had lost their houses in the December 2004 tsunami, had not been provided the housing subsidy of Rs.2.3 lakh a family for reconstruction of their houses. Similarly the free colour TVs, house site pattas to the poor and monthly assistance to the educated unemployed youth were still a pipe dream for the targeted sections. Farmers were not distributed the 2-acre land as promised. Mr. Anbalagan said that should there be further delay in fulfilling the assurances, his party would launch agitations inside the Assembly premises subsequently.
