Protest against assault on teacher

Special Correspondent

GULBARGA: The North Eastern Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe High School Teachers’ Association and several other Dalit organisations on Friday demanded the immediate arrest of a person who allegedly assaulted and abused a Dalit high school teacher working in the Government High School in Maradgi (SN) in Jewargi Taluk of Gulbarga district.

Members of the Teachers’ Association and representatives of Dalit organisations staged a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office protesting against the alleged assault of Basappa Shivappa Haralayya by Ayyannagouda Earannagouda Police Patil on June 28 after the teacher refused to oblige Mr. Patil’s demand to change the birth day in the school leaving certificate of a student.

In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, the leaders said that despite a complaint filed with the Yedrami Police Station on June 29, the accused had not been arrested yet.
