HUBLI: A programme to mark the 150th anniversary of the revolt of Baba Saheb of Nargund against the British rule will be organised at Nargund in Gadag district on Sunday. Addressing presspersons here on Friday, Nargund MLA and president of the celebration committee C.C. Patil said that the programme had been jointly organised by the Nargund Nagarika Samiti and Loka Shikshana Trust. Mr. Patil said the programme was aimed at educating youngsters on the sacrifices of Baba Saheb and other freedom fighters. Several competitions for schoolchildren were being conducted in Nargund taluk on the subject of “Nargund Revolt”. On Sunday, a “kala jatha” would be held beginning from the historic palace of Baba Saheb to the venue of the programme, he said. The programme would be inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Planning M.V. Rajasekharan, while Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa would release the book “Naragunda Babasaheba”. Several freedom fighters would be felicitated, Mr. Patil said. To a query, he said the State Government had released Rs. 20 lakh for the restoration of the historic palace of Baba Saheb.
