‘Give information under RTI Act without delay’

Staff Reporter

NAMAKKAL: The Namakkal district unit of Anti Corruption Movement (ACM) has urged the State Information Commission to ensure that the details requested under the Right to Information (RTI) Act is delivered to the petitioners without any delay.

In a press release, ACM District President N. Sivaprakasam claimed that officials in many departments in the district were not giving information requested under the RTI act within the specified time and in proper form to the petitioners. The commission should take immediate steps to sort out the issue.

The Commission should increase the awareness level among people and encourage them to seek necessary information under the act from government offices. This would ensure transparency in the functioning of various departments and would eliminate corruption, the release said. People should also come forward to utilise the provisions in the act to get information from the government offices. Members passed a resolution in this regard at their executive committee meeting held here recently.

In another resolution, members demanded the government to initiate concrete steps to eliminate corruption.

Suspension

The district administration placed a Village Administrative Officer under suspension for dereliction of duty recently.

A press release said that the administration received complaints from the people that VAO of Sarkkar Uduppam Village was not coming to the duty regularly.

An enquiry was conducted and the administration suspended the official.
