HYDERABAD: Notwithstanding advice by the AICC, Congress legislator P. Janardhan Reddy has decided to go ahead with his indefinite hunger strike from July 16 to press his demands in the road rage incident involving his son and Y. S. Raveendranath Reddy, Chief Minister’s younger brother, last Sunday. Mr. Reddy told reporters here on Friday that he had secured permission from the police to launch his fast near Indira Park demanding suspension of West Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police N. Madhusudhan Reddy, whom he accused of “overdoing” in harassing his family members. He also announced his decision to table a notice of breach of privilege against the DCP in the Assembly. Asked about summons issued by AICC general secretary in-charge of State Digvijay Singh, he said he would meet him after the hunger strike and request for an impartial inquiry into the incident. He said that he would have no objection if Congress Member of Parliament V. Hanumanth Rao, who is mediating in the issue, is entrusted the job. ‘Disciplined soldier’
Mr. Reddy expressed unstinted loyalty to party and said he would continue in Congress as a “disciplined soldier”. The MLA feared threat to the lives of his son Vishnuvardhan Reddy and son-in-law Santosh Reddy. He demanded booking of a case against the Chief Minister’s brother and his son on the charge of attempt to murder. He said that he will not seek withdrawal of the case against Vishnuvardhan Reddy. Meanwhile, Mr. Hanumantha Rao has appealed to Mr. Janardhan Reddy to put off his fast till July 19 in view of the Presidential election. He told reporters that he would continue his efforts till the issue is resolved. The MP said Mr. Reddy was apparently hurt by the high-handed behaviour of the police and was, hence, in an unrelenting mood.
