“Raje Govt. dividing communities”

Special Correspondent

A two-day meeting of the CPI(M) decides to raise public opinion on "anti-people" policies of BJP

JAIPUR: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) accused the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Government in Rajasthan on Friday of creating a schism among different communities during the recent Gujjar agitation and promoting “divisive tendencies” which it said were tearing apart the State’s delicate social fabric.

A two-day CPI(M) State Committee meeting here decided to raise public opinion on these and other “anti-people” and “anti-democratic” acts of the ruling BJP and strengthen people’s right to get basic amenities, such as water, power and shelter.

The CPI (M) Central Secretariat member in charge of Rajasthan, Hannan Mollah, told reporters that commoners such as peasants and labourers were suffering in the BJP regime in the State. He said the State Government was not even providing the mandatory 100 days’ employment under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in the tribal-dominated districts.

“Tribals engaged for NREGS are getting a maximum of 40 days’ employment in a year. Besides, they are not getting free food grain under the Antyodaya Yojana,” said Mr. Mollah, who is also an MP.

CBI probe sought

The CPI(M) demanded a CBI inquiry into a racket involving issue of fake arms licences in Sriganganagar district, saying it had put national security in the border areas at stake. Mr. Mollah alleged that local politicians, “shielded by none other than Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje”, were involved in the racket.

Mr. Mollah said a State-level convention of the party would be held in Sriganganagar from December 14 to 16 this year after a series of public meetings at various tehsils and district headquarters.
