Clarification welcomed

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Consumer Electronics and Appliance Manufacturers Association (CEAMA) on Friday hailed the clarification by the Government that it is not considering imposition of licence fee or cess either on radio or TV sets to fund Prasar Bharti operations.

There were reports that the Government was considering levying licence fees on TV sets makers and a one-time cess on those buying colour TV sets to fund the operations of the public broadcaster, which has been incurring huge losses in the recent past.

However, Information and Broadcasting Minister P. R. Dasmunsi on Thursday denied any such move.
