Corrections and clarifications

The second paragraph in the answer to a question “Latitude and Longitude — How are the latitude and longitude of a given place on earth determined?” was: “The lines of latitude run east and west, and are parallel to each other. For convenience, the earth has been divided into 360 degrees of latitude.” It was an error. It should have been 180° of latitude, 0-90° north and 0-90° south. The question appeared in the column “Que stion Corner” (“Science & Technology/Agriculture” page, July 12, 2007).
