State-ranking badminton from today

BANGALORE: Malleswaram Association will conduct its third State-ranking badminton championship for both juniors and seniors here from Saturday. The three-star event, which carries an overall prize money of Rs.1.10 lakh, has attracted a record 490 entries. The finals are scheduled to be held on July 20.

All leading State players, including Mohit Kamath, V. Amar, Anup Kiran, Sashank Achar (men), Saumya Padhye, Monisha Vinayak (women), Ajay Patil , Vinay Hari, Rajas Jawlakar (junior boys), Jacqueline Kunnath, Uttara Prakash, Poorvisha and Anisha Karumbaiah (junior girls) are in the fray. Besides players from the city, there has been heavy turnout from districts as well. The preliminary rounds of the tournament will be played at both Malleswaram Association and KBA courts and from pre quarterfinal stage onwards, all matches will be conducted at Malleswaram Association.
