BHUBANESWAR: The East Coast Railway (ECR) on Friday announced plan to provide 41 additional mail and express passenger trains for hassle-free journey of thousands of devotees who would be visiting the holy town of Puri during nine-day car festival beginning on July 16. Addressing a press conference here, ECR General Manager Surendra Singh Khurana said while 27 trains would run on the day of Ratha Jatra, two trains for sandhya darshan on July 23, seven trains on Bahuda Jatra the next day and five trains for Sunavesa on July 26. Twelve additional booking counters would be opened in addition to existing six booking centres at Puri station to cater to the increased rush of passengers, Mr. Khurana said. While five of these trains would cross Orissa boundary, remaining trains would shuttle inside the State, he said. Besides, ECR would supply 11 suitable jacks along with technical officials to the organisers of Ratha Jatra for smooth progression of the chariots. All the special trains would be escorted by Railway Protection Force personnel, he said.
