Good response to passport mela

Experts to advise youth on employment opportunities abroad

All round enthusiasm: People submitting application forms for passport at the Passport Mela in Nizamabad on Friday.

NIZAMABAD: The two-day passport mela which was inaugurated at Rajiv Gandhi Auditorium here on Friday evoked good response. The mela is being conducted under the aegis of the Rural Development and Youth Services departments.

A number of unemployed youth, students and general people were seen busy submitting application forms. Staff of the Regional Passport Office, Hyderabad helped them in filling and submission of forms.

Inaugurating the mela, district Collector B. Ramanjaneyulu, said in view of reports that many gullible people were being deceived by middlemen and brokers in obtaining the passports, the mela was planned. Besides, the mela would also create awareness among people who wished to go abroad in search of employment.

Experts would give them lessons on employment opportunities available in the Middle East, procedures to apply for them and other information relating to passports and visas. He said many precautions need to be taken by the unemployed youth wishing to secure jobs and students wishing to pursue higher education in foreign university.

The Government would provide necessary training to enable them to get employment through different agencies and an amount of Rs.5 crore was released for the purpose. The district administration was also trying to pool another Rs.4 crore from other sources. He said 86 private companies were coming forward to recruit unemployed educated youth.

Mayor D. Sanjay said passport would serve as a secure identity proof. .

The Indira Kranthi Patham Project Director P. Chinatataiah and the Youth Welfare Officer K. Madhukar Babu explained the purpose for conducting the mela. Representative from the RPO, Hyderabad Ashok Pawar said this was the first passport mela in the State in the current year.
