Delhi gets a new engineering college

Staff Reporter

G. B. Pant Engg. College is the second college started this year

NEW DELHI: Students in the Capital now have another engineering college to look forward to. The Govind Ballabh Pant Government Engineering College affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University began its admission process and counselling for students on Friday.

This is the second degree-level engineering college started by the Delhi Government this year. The first one had started operating at Jaffarpur near Najafgarh in the Capital’s rural belt earlier this year.

The Delhi Government said the new colleges had been opened as it is committed to the promotion and growth of world-class technical education in the Capital. It also said that approval of the All-India Council for Technical Education has been obtained for the new college that is located close to the Okhla Industrial Estate in South Delhi.

The G.B. Pant Government College would have an initial intake of 120 students. They would be divided equally in the Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) and Mechanical and Automation Engineering (MAE) streams. The college has come up at the campus where the G.B. Pant Polytechnic is located and has been developed as a super speciality institution in Mechanical Engineering, with focus on Automation, Flexible/Advanced Manufacturing Systems (FMSs), Mechatronics, Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM), Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM), Robotics and Nano-Technology.

During the next five years, five more streams would be added at the undergraduate level alone in the college and at least 10 courses would be added at the postgraduate level.
