Engineering as a career

Engineering is a career that involves finding solutions to problems and helping change the world in which we live. Engineers should be creative in approach, inquisitive in outlook and analytical in thinking. They should be able to work as a part of a team and have good communication abilities because engineers interact with specialists in a wide range of fields outside engineering. Requisites to join engineering Students with a background in science in +2 (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) are eligible to pursue engineering. Admissions to engineering colleges are based on All India or State level entrance examinations depending upon the admission policies of individual institutions. Variety of choices-Engineering disciplines There are wide range of careers that fall under engineering and each branch of the sector requires a different set of qualifications, skills and interests. Electronics and Communications Engineering This course has a great demand for students.

Apart from jobs in electronic industry, students can easily get absorbed in computer hardware and software industry. Electronics deals with the design of circuits and electrical devices to produce, amplify, detect or rectify electrical signals. Communications involves a broad spectrum of applications from consumer entertainment to military radar. Electrical Engineering There are a number of jobs available for electrical engineers in the field of electric power generation, transmission and distribution, besides in manufacturing industry involved in the production of electrical and electronic parts and many types of switchgear and controls. Controls engineers design systems that control automated operations and processes. Instrumentation involves the use of electronic devices.

They also process, store and transmit the data they collect. Mechanical Engineering This is grouped into three broad areas and there is no industry that does not involve it. Mechanical engineers in energy related fields design and operate power plants, study the economical combustion of fuels, design processes to convert energy and create ways to put it to work.

They also design heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems for homes, commercial buildings and industrial plants. In the second area they different types of automobiles and machines.
