Action sought against police officials
HYDERABAD: The CPI (M) State committee on Friday demanded stringent action against police officials for handcuffing B.Venkat, General Secretary, Andhra Pradesh Agricultural Workers’ Association, in connection with a case registered in 1998.
In a representation submitted to Home Minister K. Jana Reddy here, committee leaders Y.V. Rao, B. Tulasidas and P. V. Srinivas demanded withdrawal of curbs placed on the 70-day-old land struggle launched by the party. They alleged that Venkat’s arrest and handcuffing indicated the Government’s ‘vindictive’ attitude towards activists of the 195 organisations spearheading the struggle. R. Bhaskar, president, and S.Veeraiah, general secretary, said that ‘repressive’ measures would not cow down the activists.
