’Obsession and strength’: A photo of Narmada river.
Bangalore: For photographer Jogesh Thakar, the Narmada River is his “obsession and strength”. In his photo exhibition he “romances the Narmada, capturing her in his lens”. He traces the journey of the river across the breadth of the country, from its source at Amarkantak, its course through the Vindhyas and to its confluence with the sea in Gujarat. The river has inspired this observation from Mr. Thakar, who says of its three important ghats: “The ghat of Maheshwara is like classical music on the banks of the Narmada; the Shethani ghat of Hoshangabad reminds the visitor of the beautiful songs of Bollywood, and the Barmaan ghat is like the sweet tunes of folk music.” The photo exhibition, titled A journey of the Eternal Narmada, is sponsored by the Gujarat Lalitkala Akademi. It opens at the Chitrakala Parishat on J uly 16 at 5 p.m. and is on till July 22.
