City-based MIDC files some 180 patents during the last three years

HYDERABAD: The city-based Microsoft India Development Centre (MIDC) is seeking to innovate from India to drive global business growth and has filed 180 patents during the last three years.

MIDC, which is the largest development centre of Microsoft outside the US, is currently working on more than 50 products and technologies. Some of the key development initiatives from MIDC include Data Protection Manager, RFID Platform Technologies, Office Windows, Visual Studio and Office Live Meeting.

Innovations showcased

A few of the important innovations, technologies and products developed by MIDC and Microsoft Research India (MSR India), Bangalore, have been showcased at the two-day TechXchange-2007 which concluded at the MIDC campus here on Friday.

It featured close to 50 demos and posters, apart from talks on various topics in computer science.

Addressing a press conference, MIDC’s Vice-president and Managing Director, Srini Koppolu, and MSR India’s Managing Director, P. Anandan said the two centres planned to deepen their collaboration, particularly in software engineering, multilingual systems, mobility and networks and technologies for emerging markets.

MSR India and MIDC were already collaborating on innovation of multipoint product. Multipoint enables operation of multiple input devices, such as mice and keyboards, on a PC simultaneously and allows a number of persons to use the computer at the same time.

As part of the multilingual systems, Mr. Srini said that Microsoft was looking to take the technology to the masses by making content available in different Indian languages as only a miniscule population was conversant with English.
