Funds granted to develop free land

PUDUKOTTAI: The State Government has sanctioned a sum of Rs.57.29 lakh for taking up development works on the land allotted to landless farmers under the ‘Free land scheme’ in the district, Collector S.J. Chiru has said.

He was presiding over a meeting to review the implementation of the ‘Free colour television scheme,’ ‘Agricultural labourers’ and farmers’ social security scheme’ and ‘Free land scheme’ here on Thursday.

The Government had, in the first phase, released a sum of Rs. 35.47 lakh for the purpose.

About 5,370 acres of land, valued at Rs. 10.61 crore, had so far been distributed to as many as 6,668 landless labourers in the district.

The Agricultural Engineering Department had completed land reclamation on about 1,032 acres and another 808 acres would be reclaimed shortly.

A bore-well had been sunk at an expenditure of Rs. 1.37 lakh at Melathaaniyam.
