Publication of fresh UPSC list sought
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: Two public interest litigation petitions have been filed in the Madras High Court alleging violation of the mandatory rule of reservation norms in the selection of civil servants through the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) this year and seeking publication of a fresh list.
The First Bench, comprising Chief Justice A.P. Shah and Justice P. Jyothimani, before which the petitions filed by the Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam president T.S. Mani and advocate M.F. Khan came up for admission on Friday, ordered notices to the Centre and the UPSC.
Besides seeking to declare the selection list for the year 2006 illegal and unconstitutional, the petitioners prayed for an order of interim injunction restraining the Centre from allotting postings to candidates selected as per the list published by the UPSC on May 14.
The petitioners contended that the UPSC continued to flout the Centre’s directives and the Supreme Court rulings, besides the constitutional provisions, by not including successful candidates from reserved categories in the open category.
The petitions said nearly 60 candidates belonging to the open category were unlawfully included in the merit list.
