Enough scope for using modern information technology tools, says Ambassador
CHENNAI: The Philippines Government is keen to further the bilateral trade ties with India and explore business opportunities, especially in the areas of automotive industry, pharmaceuticals, bio-fuel energy and the Information Technology, Teresita Vega Berner, the Philippines Ambassador to India, said here on Friday. Speaking to reporters after visiting the Perotsystems, a BPO facility at Ambattur Industrial Estate in Chennai, Ms. Berner said the trade ties between India and the Philippines improved further with Perotsystems opening their BPO facility in Manila recently. “We would like to see both Filipino people and its business partners from India enjoy the fruits of an accelerating robust economy”. Ms. Berner noted that there had been considerable upsurge in the trade and business ties with foreign direct investments pouring in from Indian entrepreneurs. Use of IT
Mr. Berner, who was accompanied by the Second Secretary, Philippines Embassy in New Delhi, Mr. Iric C Arribas, said in addition to Knowledge Processing Outsourcing (KPO) in the healthcare domain, there was enough scope for using modern tools of information technology to help “reach the unreached”. This concept was demonstrated at the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) where the scientists disseminated information to field-level workers in the agriculture area near Chennai. Expansion mode
Welcoming the high-level Filipino delegation and its Ambassador, Vardhman Jain, Managing Director of Perotsystems, heading the Insurance, Business Process Solutions in India and Manila, noted that the recently opened Philippines centre would play an important role in the global delivery of Perotsystems. The company was in the expansion mode in India with already over 7,000 employees in Chennai, Coimbatore, Bangalore and Noida near New Delhi. “We are in the threshold of offering infrastructure services to the Filipinos in addition to the KPO.”
