Silver Elephant award for M. Ramachandran
Abdul Kalam presents award to Ramachandran
New Delhi: M. Ramachandran, Secretary, Union Ministry of Urban Development, was awarded the prestigious and highest national award of scouting and guiding in India, ‘Silver Elephant,’ by President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday.
Mr. Ramachandran was honoured in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Uttarakhand as its Chief Secretary, which post he held before. The citation referred to the meritorious service he rendered in organising programmes for the all-round development of the youth of the State. He is the only Chief Secretary chosen for this honour.
This is the centenary year of the scouting movement. It has spread in more than 216 countries, with a membership of 38 million. There are 38 lakh members in Indian Scouts and Guides.
