Special Correspondent
Thiruvananthapuram: The former Supreme Court judge V.R. Krishna Iyer on Friday urged the Nobel Prize Committee to select Argentine HIV victim Patricia Perez for this year’s Nobel Prize. He was speaking after inaugurating an e-mail campaign for Ms. Perez organised by the Foundation for Integrated Research in Mental Health (Firm). Mr. Iyer said the choice of Ms. Perez for the Nobel Prize would help to overcome the social stigma and aversion faced by HIV victims all over the world. Ms. Perez’s name was proposed by Honduras President Manuel Salaya Rozales. Mr. Iyer said the denial of admission to five HIV-infected children at MD LP school in Pambady was a shameful incident, demonstrating the neglect shown to victims of the dreaded disease. Firm had moved the High Court on the issue, seeking justice for the children. A press note issued by Firm called on the public to send e-mail messages in support of Ms. Perez to the address: comments@nobelprize.org or firmindia@rediffmail.com
