Raid on hooch dens in Bonacaud forests

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Forest Vigilance destroyed five illicit hooch brewing set-ups and more than 5,000 litres of wash during a raid on hooch dens in Bonacaud forests in Thiruvananthapuram district on Friday. The hooch dens were found deep in the forests in areas known as Kaduva Adicha Motta, Kalchatti Motta and Kurusu Mala, in steep gullies that ensured secrecy. The Forest Vigilance reached the places after gathering information from local people, said Divisional Forest Officer T. Pradeep Kumar. Chief Conservator of Forests (Vigilance) V. Gopinathan said the raids were part of the intensified efforts by Forest Vigilance to check forest-related crimes. Intelligence gathering has been strengthened in recent months, he added. — Special Correspondent
