AIADMK leaders held

Special Correspondent

Puducherry: AIADMK secretary A. Anbalagan was among the volunteers, including women cadre, arrested near the Anna statue at Odiansalai here on Saturday for staging a ‘road roko’ to protest against the “failure” of the Congress Government in fulfilling its poll promises.

MLA Ohm Shakthi Segar courted arrest at Nellithope along with party cadres. Former legislator A M Krishnamoorthy, deputy secretary of the party A. Ravindran and presidium leader M. Pandurangam were among those arrested when they tried to picket important junctions with party volunteers.

The agitators said there had been no follow-up action to provide houses to tsunami-hit fishermen in Puducherry and Karaikal regions. The 10-kilo free rice scheme was being operated in a haphazard manner. The AIADMK sources said M.V. Omalingam, MLA, was held along with party men when they staged road roko at the local bus terminus in Karaikal.
