BANGALORE: Srinivas, Sub-Inspector of Subramanyapura police station, was trapped by the Lokayukta police while he was accepting a bribe of Rs. 15,000, a Lokayukta press release said. The Sub-Inspector allegedly demanded Rs. 20,000 from M. Manjunath, a resident of Doddakallasandra, for taking action against the latter’s brother. The amount was brought down to Rs. 15,000. Manjunath had filed a complaint that his brother, Muniyappa, was illegally occupying his site. Mr. Manjunath alerted the Lokayukta police, and Mr. Srinivas was caught accepting the bribe on Thursday. A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The Sub-Inspector has been remanded in judicial custody, the press release said. Gopal, a land surveyor in the Hassan tahsildar’s office, was trapped while accepting a bribe of Rs. 1,000 for issuing a land sketch to Mohan Kumar, a resident of Hanchihalli. A.K. Laxmanappa, a community organiser of Honnali Town Panchayat in Davangere, was caught accepting a bribe of Rs. 800 from Susheelamma for issuing a possession certificate for a house allotted under the Ashraya housing scheme, the release said.
