Delhi Jal Board is an ocean of economic bungling, says BJP leader “The Lokayukta had made serious comments against the Chief Minister”
NEW DELHI: Taking strong exception to the manner in which the Delhi Government has so far overlooked alleged involvement of four Delhi Jal Board engineers in a gang-rape case, Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president Harsh Vardhan on Saturday demanded that Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who is also the Chairperson of the Delhi Jal Board, immediately dismiss all of them. Dr. Vardhan said it was a matter of serious concern that despite being a woman herself the Chief Minister had so far not taken any action against these engineers even though a month had lapsed since an FIR was registered against them by the police on the directions of a Delhi court. Charging that “the Delhi Jal Board is an ocean of economic bungling”, Dr. Vardhan alleged that “the Lokayukta had while enquiring into corrupt practices therein also made serious comments against the Chief Minister and members of her family”. He further charged that “the CBI had found bungling of crores by raiding Delhi Jal Board Chief Executive Officer Rakesh Mohan. Such big bungling could not be committed without the consent of the Chief Minister because tenders of big amount of Delhi Jal Board cannot be passed without the signature of Chairperson,” he said. And now, Dr. Vardhan added, when four senior engineers of the Jal Board had been accused of rape by a woman who had completed her Masters in Business Administration and was looking for a job in the Jal Board, the Delhi Government had not acted against the accused. The BJP leader said the FIR (610/07) dated June 9, 2007 under Sections 376, 354, 506, 384 (34) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Malviya Nagar police station on June 9 this year under the directions of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kamini Lau. But even after the registration of the FIR, the accused were not arrested by the police. Subsequently the victim urged the National Commission for Women chairperson Girija Vyas to intervene in the matter. Dr. Vardhan said it was a matter of grave concern that both the Delhi Government and the Delhi police were shying away from taking action against the accused.
