‘Sainik Schools to be strengthened’

Correspondent

VIZIANAGARAM: Minister of State for Defence M.M. Pallam Raju has said that Sainik Schools would be strengthened to improve enrollment as officers in Defence services.

He told reporters here on Saturday that among the four southern states only a few from Andhra Pradesh had been joining the NDA. Lucrative openings in Information Technology might be the reason, he felt.

Quoting Principal Secretary (Education), Mr. Raju said that a second Sainik School for the State was under consideration.

Already, he said a second school was sanctioned for Karnataka. Earlier, Mr. Pallam Raju inaugurated the newly laid 5-km-long water pipeline from Gosthani river bed to the school campus.

Guard of honour

On his arrival at the school helipad he was received by Group Captain K.K. Biswas, Principal of the school, and Collector B. Kishore. Mr. Pallam Raju inspected the guard of honour by senior division NCC cadets of the school.
